The Historic Chinese Admiral & Explorer

The Chinese Admiral Zheng He led several expeditions between 1405 and 1433.  Up to 300 ships and 28,000 men travelled all across Asia, Africa, the Pacific and even the Americas. 

The travels were not of conquest, but trade, diplomacy and discovery.  While sufficiently armed, the main cargo consisted of laquerware, silk and porcelain:
